Navigating the Products page

What every filter, column, and Actions item on the Products page does, so you can get to any SKU and its costs in seconds.

Written by Emily Burrows

About

The Products page is where every product from every connected sales channel lands, together with what it cost you and how many units it moved. It's the page you'll use to fill in missing costs, merge duplicates across channels, and open any single SKU.

Getting familiar with it once saves you hunting later. Most inventory questions in Margins are answered from this page or one click into it.

Click Products in the left sidebar to open it.

  • The columns

  • The Actions menu

  • The product detail page

1. Filters and search

Everything above the table narrows what you're looking at. Nothing here changes your data.

Control

What it does

Period, From, To ①

Sets the date range the unit and cost figures are calculated over. Change it and Net units depleted and Average cost change with it.

Search Product name or SKU ②

Finds a single product by either its name or its SKU.

Filters ③

Opens a panel with Source, Attributes (Active / Inactive), View hidden from product list (Visible / Not visible), and Product tags. Reset all clears them.

The missing-cost toggle ④

Turn it on to show only the products counted in the products are missing cost per unit for COGS calculation banner.

2. The columns

Column

What it shows

Product

Product name and image, as they come from the source channel.

SKU

The SKU from the source channel. This is what Margins matches on when you import costs by CSV.

Source

The sales channel the product came from. A merged product shows every channel it came from.

Attributes

Whether the product is active or inactive, and whether it's the result of a merge.

Net units depleted

Units sold and given away, reduced by restocked units, for the selected period. Returned units aren't deducted unless they were restocked.

Average cost

Total COGS for the period divided by net units depleted.

The simple way to think about it: Net units depleted is how many units left you, and Average cost is what they cost you on average while they were leaving.

Note: dead inventory, donations, and other inventory adjustments aren't tracked in Margins, so they never appear in Net units depleted.

3. The Actions menu

Actions ① sits at the top right of the page.

Item

What it opens

Bulk costs edit

The Bulk costs editing page, where you can type costs for many products at once, Import CSV, or Export costs. See Adding your cost per unit.

Merge products

The Merge products page, where you combine duplicates by hand. See Merging duplicate products.

Export file

Downloads the current product list, with whatever filters you have applied. Verify exact file format and column list.

Hide from product list

Hides the products you've selected. Stays greyed out until you tick at least one row.

Add product

Creates a product manually, for something that doesn't come from a connected channel. Verify the fields on this form and whether a manually added product can be merged.

When Margins spots likely duplicates, a You've got product merge recommendations! banner appears above the table. Tap to review opens them.

4. The product detail page

Click any product name to open it. From there:

  • Product details expands to show Merged products (source, name, SKU, and ASIN for every product folded into this one) and Additional info, where you can add Tags, Notes, and an Attachment.

  • The COGS tab shows one card per sales channel, with Units sold, Units restocked/cancelled, Average cost, and Total for the period you pick.

  • The Cost per unit tab shows your Current cost and the full dated history of every cost you've entered. See Adding your cost per unit.

  • Actions offers Edit, Hide from product list, and Duplicate.

  • The ‹ and › arrows move to the previous or next product without going back to the list.

Tip: use the arrows when you're filling in costs one SKU at a time. It saves a round trip through the list on every product.
